Description
A luxurious antique Victorian Albert chain from the late 19th Century consisting of solid 9ct gold curb links, with faceted rollerball links in between. Each is stamped “375/ 9ct” and has a warm, yellow gold bloom.
Albert chains were popularised and named after Queen Victoria’s consort, Prince Albert in the 19th Century and were traditionally used by gentlemen to secure a pocket watch to the buttonhole of a waistcoat. Today, they are also worn as stylish necklaces; a custom that was started by the wives of soldier’s during the first world war who wore the chains as a keepsake in the hope they’d return home safely.
It’s a good quality chain, complete with the classic double claw clasp and T-bar, stamped with the maker’s mark belonging to “E. Whitehouse & Son” of Birmingham.
We recommend you insure for £2,300. We can provide a written Valuation on completion of the sale.
